Walter R. May, Ph.D.

Walter May received a B.S. degree from Memphis State University in chemistry and mathematics and a Ph.D. degree from Vanderbilt University in chemistry and physics.  He has published more than forty technical papers, listed as inventor on twenty-eight patents and contributed chapters for reference works.  He is author of “U.S. Energy Independence – A Plan for Energy Independence by 2020″ (2008), “The Chemistry of Hydrocarbon Fuel Combustion” (2013), “Combustion Catalyst Application in Low-Speed Two-Stroke Diesel Engines” (2015), “Combustion Catalyst Application in a MAN-B&W Low-Speed Two-Stroke Diesel Engine” (2016) and “Fuel Savings and Emissions Reductions in a Sulzer Low-Speed Two-Stroke Diesel Engine” (2017).

Dr. May has worked in the petroleum industry since 1966 and was co-founder of SFA Technologies in 1980.  The company moved to Houston, TX in 1993 and reorganized as SFA International, a Texas corporation.  In 2014, SFA International merged with two of its distributors to form Efficient Fuel Solutions, LLC.

He has made major contributions to the technology of using hydrocarbon fuels in environmentally safe ways.  A primary discovery was the different combustion reaction rates for aliphatic and asphaltene fuels leading to the design of a combustion catalyst that improves fuel efficiency and reduces pollution.

Walter is president of Walter May & Associates, a consulting firm knowledgeable in many aspects of petroleum fuel combustion processes.  This company provides expert witness testimonials in legal matters.  He is available for lectures and speaking engagements.  He has been invited to share his knowledge at seminars around the world.

Walter and his wife, Cheryl, reside in Lakeway, TX where they take great joy in spoiling grandchildren.  He is or has been a member of several professional and social organizations including the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.  Walter and Cheryl are active members of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Austin and remain connected to St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Houston.  Walter’s passion is music.  He is a classically trained concert pianist and Rachmaninoff’s concertos are his favorites.  Walter enjoys giving benefit performances for charity and church organizations.
